Rituals During Rath Yatra
During this event, known as Pahandi, the devotees move the deities from the Jagannath shrine to the Chariot for their journey to the Gundicha shrine. Gundicha, regarded as a true devotee of Lord Krishna, receives visits from all three deities to honor her devotion. We bring out the idol of Balabhadra first, followed by the idol of Subhadra, and lastly, the idol of Jagannath.
Chhera Pahara: On the first day of the tour, it is one of the most essential rites. Everyone is equal in the sight of the deities, according to this ceremony. To perform this ceremony, the Gajapati King dons a sweeper’s outfit and cleans the area around the deities and chariots using a gold-handled broom and sandalwood water with great devotion. Twice a year, the deities are taken to Gundicha temple and then back to Jagannath temple in this rite. When they arrive at the Gundicha shrine, the three goddesses ceremonially cleanse and dress themselves in boirani fabric. The fourth day, known as Hera Panchami, honors Goddess Lakshmi’s arrival in search of Lord Jagannath.
